Flu- bomb is important for us to protect. At this time of the year, people are more prone to getting flu due to the weather. It is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the weather most likely to change every season. According to the HSE, 200 to 500 Irish die from this virus per year. In the weekly report of the first week of 2020 by Influenza surveillance in Ireland, the flu is ruling this changing season where 15 outbreaks, five acute respiratory infections and one because of type B flu and human metapneumovirus.

The flu which is also called “ influenza” has also a bloody history dated back from 1347 to 1351 when it was called “ Black Death” but the worst history of this virus comes from the First World War in 1918 when 20 to 40 million civilian died. At that time there was neither cure nor vaccine. The researchers from 1933 found that there are three types of this virus namely A, B and C. And, Jonas Salk and Thomas Francis found the vaccine in 1983.

The flu will first affect your throat; have fever, chills, fatigue and mostly coughing and sneezing.  It makes you exhausted while you ache with pain, leaving a chronic cough up to six weeks. Some will also feel a mood swing. According to NHS, headache, loss of appetite, feeling sick and being sick are among the symptoms they have included.

Who gets the flu quickly? Pregnant women, older people, and children fall under this category. Not only them, but many can also get into serious trouble if we don’t take good care of ourselves. When it is left untreated, it will lead to health complications like pneumonia or bronchitis. You can also cure yourself by taking plenty of rest for several. Many take home remedies like taking a stream or drinking the mixture of honey and lemon with hot water. Taking a paracetamol is also good.

Government and health workers recommend the flu vaccination is best prevention from this virus. The government is raising awareness about the importance of vaccination by operating a campaign “European Immunization Week” across the EU. Even in the workplace, they provide the employee, the corporate winter flu vaccination service to prevent flu.

People don’t see Flu as a threat or a serious disease. If not vaccine in time, it leads to death. Discussions are going on whether or not the formulas of vaccination are works? Nowadays, most of the families have started not to believe in vaccinating their children. They believe it might destroy their children immune system or have a long term side effect.  They prefer natural remedies than vaccine. According to an article about flu from the Irish Times, people believe that they are strong enough to fight against the flu.  Doctor recommends that if a person comes in contact with the person regularly whether they are infected or not, should be vaccine.

As there is saying prevention is better than cure, it’s important to vaccine yourself with the flu vaccination so that you can save the trouble of getting the flu. It will come in effect within two weeks. The vaccine keeps on changing according to the weather. If you vaccine this year, it won’t work in the next year. It much doesn’t cost to get a vaccine. If you are 10 years and over its free if you have GP card or a medical card and is available at your local pharmacy nearby you. If you have any severe allergies from the vaccine, consult your doctor first before taking one.

My name is Sukrity Sharma. My hometown is from Kathmandu, Nepal and I live in Dublin, Ireland. I have done my undergrad degree in Social Work from Kathmandu, Nepal. I am currently studying Master’s in Journalism and Public Relations at Griffith College, South circular Road, Dublin 08.

I have specialized training with women, children with disabilities and young girls associated with human trafficking as trainee and intern. Not only that, I have also developed research and administrative management skills during my work with Step Nepal where I worked as St. Xavier's undergrad Intern.

Born in Kathmandu, I grew up listening to the stories of how during my birth I was by sheer grace of God saved from fatal disabilities. Had the pregnancy been mishandled, I might have ended up as one of these children that I now aspired to work for and bring light and meaning in their unstable lives of these children.

In addition, I grew up in a family of writers and teachers. My father being a poet and journalist, I learnt the idea of compassion and human contact as he worked on his books and had opportunity of traveling to remote areas in the Annapurnas when he was writing his famous books on the region. My mother being a book seller, I grew up reading classic literature including biographies of Gandhi, Lincoln, Mother Teresa, Devkota and Tagore.

I have also worked as a content writer for a year for a digital marketing back in my country, Nepal which added more knowledge to my administrative skills. I had specialized training with women, children with disabilities and young girls associated with human trafficking as a trainee and an intern. Not only that, I have also developed research and administrative management skills during my work with Step Nepal where I worked as Kathmandu St. Xavier's Undergrad Intern.

I have been in Dublin over a year now and have familiarized myself with the local work environment along with the local lore and legends and language through my work as a student, blog writer, a waitress, a SPAR deli assistant where I obtained skills in managing hygiene and culinary arts and hospitality management. I also worked at the till for managing cash and sales.
